Halstead Essex

Welcome to the website of

The Halstead and District Horticultural Society

 based in Halstead in Essex.

You will find details about us, our 2 regular annual shows. and our new Spring Show. As soon as they are finalised the latest schedules for all shows will be available online or as a PDF download. Online entry forms for the current  year's shows will also be available. A gallery of photos from some of our previous shows is avaiable here

Halstead Horticultural & Chrysanthemum Society has been in existence for some 60 years and is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, the National Dahlia Society and the National Chrysanthemum Society. The oldest recorded Minutes for the society date back to 1954.

The Society’s small committee is passionate about keeping the society going and indeed still puts on two shows in Halstead (one in September and one in November) each year with exhibits of Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, vegetables, cookery, craft and children’s work all on show.

The Society owns and rents out allotment land in Hedingham Road, Halstead and anyone interested in having an allotment should contact the society’s Chairman on 01787 473527.

At the present time a few hives of bees are kept on an allotment plot. The plot is as far away from other allotment holders as possible. If you have any questions, concerns about the bees or know of any swarms please contact either :-

 0785265566 or 07522352708.

The Society is always looking to welcome new members, exhibitors and visitors so why not come along to one of our shows and see what we are “all about?”

The Committee is very disappointed to have to inform everyone of the decision to cancel the proposed Spring Show which was due to take place on 31 March 2019.

Due to a number of unforeseen factors, not least of which is that the 31 March is Mothering Sunday and venues not available on alternative dates, the committee has reluctantly decided to cancel this year's show.

Discussions have already been held with regard to now launching the Spring Show in 2020 and details of this we hope will be available at the Annual General Meeting which will be held on 12 March 2019, 7.30 pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall.
